Compatibility

Before you purchase any tracking app to monitor your loved ones it’s important that you check the compatibility of the app. It’s important to know whether the app will work on the target phone(child’s cell phone) or not. In the case of fenced.ai, it can track both iPhone and Android smartphones but there are some conditions that need to be fulfilled. If you want to track an Android phone then it needs to be running on Android 8 and above and you must have physical access to the device.

Whereas if your child is using an iPhone then you may not need to touch their phone because it tracks their activities through iCloud. So you must know their iCloud credentials. Also, the target iPhone must be running on iOS version 7.1.2 or higher.

How To Install & Use fenced.ai

Although setting up your fenced.ai account and installing it on the target phone is not that hard, you may still face some issues if you are doing it for the first time. Don’t worry you can follow these steps to create your account and then install the app on your child’s device.

Account Creation

1. The first thing you need to do is to sign up to fenced.ai and create your account. This account will be used to keep an eye on your child’s phone. Go to fenced.ai official website and click on the Sign-Up or Get Started button.

2. Now enter your details like name, email, and password, and then click on the Create An Account button.

3. With this your account is created. Next, you need to select the device and choose a plan according to your needs.

Once you have selected a plan you need to make the payment and then you are good to go.

App Installation

1. Login into your fenced.ai account with the email and password you have used while creating the account.

2. Now you need to scan the QR code from the target phone’s camera. As soon as you point the phone camera to the QR code a link will pop up on the screen. Tap on the link and the app will start to download.

3. Once the app is downloaded, install it on your kid’s phone.

4. Once the app is installed, launch it and enter the name of your kid. Then tap on OK to proceed.

5. After that it will ask you to provide multiple permissions, follow the onscreen prompts to give all the permissions one by one.

6. After providing the permissions, you need to enter your email and password to sync the target phone to your fenced.ai account.

7. After logging in, it will ask for more permissions. Allow all the permissions and you can also choose to hide the app from here.

Dashboard

The dashboard of this parental control app is one of the best-utilized dashboards I have seen so far. It is because you get to see all the details like their call logs, messages, location, device details on a single screen itself.

So you don’t have to go anywhere as you can see all the details on the dashboard itself.

You get a lot of features on this kid monitoring app that are helpful and effective in ensuring the safety of children. Here I share with you the different features of the fenced.ai app and do they actually work.

1. Call Activities

The first feature of this app allows you to keep a check on the calls, messages, contacts, and SIM cards of the target phone.

Calls

First things first, it provides you the call logs of all the missed, incoming and outgoing calls on the target phone. With this feature, you can know with whom your kid talks the most.

For testing, I have made the calls on the target phone from my cell number and it was showing on the dashboard in 10 to 15 minutes. However, when I deleted the call log from the target phone just after receiving it, the app was not able to detect it. So if your kids delete the call history immediately you may never know with whom they were talking.

Messages

Similar to call logs this app was able to monitor all the text messages that were being sent or received from the target device. However, when I deleted the chats instantly after receiving or sending them it was not able to track them. It’s a problem with this app but it’s still better than FamiSafe, another popular parental control app that doesn’t even have a call and message tracking feature.

Contacts

Apart from calls and messages, this app can also show you all the contacts that are saved by your kids on their phones. It may take up to 15 minutes to sync newly added contacts to your fenced.ai account.

What’s good is that it can also show you the email address associated with that particular contact and their birth date.

SIM Card

The SIM Card feature shows you the information about the SIM Card installed on the target cell phone. Your kid might be using multiple SIM Cards without your knowledge, if it is so then you will know about it from here.

However, the feature I missed here was the SIM change alert which sends you a notification on the email whenever your child changes the SIM card. I contacted their customer support regarding it and they said they are currently working on this feature and will add it to the app as soon as possible.

2. LOGS

Keylogger

The keylogger section holds all the keystrokes pressed on the target phone. The best part is that it stores the keystrokes pressed on different apps separately. This helps in knowing what text is typed on which app. This way you can read all of their social media messages easily.

However, it may take some time for the recorded keystroke to reflect on your dashboard. So you may need to be a little patient.

Notification Log

The Notification Log is a one of its kind feature that I have not seen on any other spyware or parental control app yet and I have tested over 20 apps on this site. It is a pretty helpful feature as you can see what kind of notifications your kids receive on their phones.

The notifications it shows are mainly from third-party apps. It does not show notifications from the stock apps like messages and calls.

WiFi Log

The WiFi Log feature shows you which WiFi router the target phone is currently connected to along with all other networks it was connected to in the past. However, it does not share the location of the WiFi as it shows on some other spyware.

But one thing I like is that fenced.ai sends you an email whenever it detects that the WiFi is switched by the target phone.

So you don’t have to always sign in to your fenced.ai account to check the WiFi log of your kids.

3. Social Media

With fenced.ai you can track all the popular social media apps used by your kids. It can monitor your child’s activities on Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, Messenger, YouTube, Twitter, Viber, etc.

However, it does not capture screenshots of the app as other spy apps do like uMobix and KidsGuard Pro. With screenshots, you can see what exactly they are doing on these apps, apart from just reading their messages. Here, you can only see the keylogger and the app notifications. Also the time it takes to sync the social media activity is somewhere around 10 to 15 minutes which is slightly on the higher side if you want real-time reports.

I might be complaining about the time it takes to sync the data to my fenced.ai account but I would also like to compliment it for its accuracy. By accuracy I mean, it was able to detect all the messages typed on various social media platforms.

4. Locations

Most parents use a monitoring app just for one feature and that is location tracking because it’s the best feature to ensure their kid’s safety. You also get that feature here and not just location tracking but you also get the GeoFencing feature which allows you to double-check their safety.

Location

When you go to the Location tab on your fenced.ai account, you can see the current location of the target device on the map. The address of the location is also shown on the left side of the map. You can also zoom in and out of the map to inspect the location better.

However, what I found was that the location it tracks is not pinpoint accurate, it shows a 50 to 100-meter deviation on the map. Whereas, on FamiSafe you can track the 100% accurate location of your kids. If you are looking for a parental control app just for location tracking then FamiSafe is a far better option than fenced.ai.

GeoFencing

In the Geofencing feature, it worked well as it was able to track the location of the target phone even when the internet was turned off on it.

It shows the time when the target person has entered or exited the virtual fence set up by you on the map. You also get an email simultaneously on your email so that you can take quick action if you don’t want your kids to go out of the safe zone set by you. This makes it one of the best geofencing apps you should try.

5. Media

This section shows you all the multimedia files stored on the target cell phone. It can be the photos or videos they have captured from their phone or received or downloaded from somewhere.

Photos

Here you can see the photos and screenshots captured on the target cell phone. Apart from just viewing the photos, you can also download the photos on your device. You can also choose to select multiple photos and download all of them at once.

Videos

Similar to photos you can also download the videos stored on the target phone. It also gives you the option to play the video on the dashboard itself but it didn’t work for me.

6. Applications

In this section, you get various information about the apps stored on the target cell phone and also about the browsing history of your child. There is also an Email function here that shows the emails sent and received by your child but unfortunately, it didn’t work for me.

Applications

Here you get the list of all the apps installed on the target cell phone with the installation date and time. Also, it shares with you the size of the app i.e. how much space it is occupying on your child’s phone. However, what’s the best part is that it allows you to block the app remotely without touching the phone.

As soon as you block the app, it will not open on the target phone and they will see a message like this on their device.

This is a great feature if you want to block apps like Tinder, Instagram, and other adult apps on your child’s phone.

Browser History

If you want to see what your kid browse on their phone and how are they using the internet then you need to come to this section of the app. Here you can find all the sites they have visited in the past with the clickable link to the page so you can check it yourself.

You can also search for the site you are looking for on the search column at the top left corner. You can add words like porn, drugs, etc. to see if your child is searching for such inappropriate stuff online.

App Activity

The app activity function on the app allows you to see the time your kids have spent on a particular app. With this feature, you can keep an eye on a child’s screen time and from the Applications tab, you can also remotely block the app that you think your kid is getting addicted to.

However, unlike FamiSafe you cannot block all the apps at once on this app which is kind of a downside of it. By blocking all the apps you can restrict your kids from using the phone after a set time period.

Customer Support

The customer support of fenced.ai is top-notch and easy to reach. You can chat with them from your dashboard or from the official website. They reply almost instantly and try to solve your queries as quickly as possible. What I liked most about it is that you don’t have to file a ticket or fill out any form to talk to their customer support executive.

You also get chat history on your mail. You can keep it in your archives for future references.

Overall, I am quite impressed with the fenced.ai support.

Will It Make My Child’s Phone Slow?

No, don’t worry the app works without causing any trouble in the target phone. It does not slow down or heat up the device. Moreover, what’s impressive is that it does not consume a lot of the battery so your kid will not face any problem using their phone.

fenced.ai Vs FamiSafe

The pricing of both the popular parental control apps is somewhat in a similar range. However, the features you get on FamiSafe are way more than the fenced.ai app. The best feature that fenced.ai lack is Drive Saftey using which you can track the driving of your child. Other features like web filter, explicit content detection, and safe search make FamiSafe even better.

However, FamiSafe lacks message and call tracking. If you also want to read your child’s text messages and see their call logs then fenced.ai is what you should pick over FamiSafe. Apart from these features both the child monitoring apps are quite similar and can help you monitor your child’s activities and ensure their safety online.

Is fenced.ai Worth It? My Thoughts On It

fenced.ai is an affordable solution to track your kid’s online activities. Although it takes some time to sync the data from the target cell phone to your fenced.ai account, it is still worth it because it tracks everything almost accurately. Moreover, it does not cause any harm to the phone’s performance and its customer support is top-notch which makes me recommend it more.
